Trey Lopez aka Manolo Black is an Austin based DJ and has been a member of Texas’ Latin-Tropical Bass collective Peligrosa since 2008, which has been featured on KLRU’s Arts in Context documentary series. He is from Robstown, which is a small town in South Texas. Growing up he was exposed to all kinds of music and was fortunate to have had a record store called The Melody Shop in his hometown. He would make regular trips to this place with his family to purchase his own records ever since then he’s been digging and searching for music.
He is known for eclectic sets that and flow seamlessly from Cumbia, Caribbean, Brazilian and Afro-Latin vibes to heavy soul, hip hop and funk dancefloor jams. He has shared the bill with artists such as Brownout, Los Masters Plus, Calle 13, Broken Social Scene, Quantic and Bebel Gilberto to name a few. On stage he has collaborated with DJ Mel, Adrian Quesada, John Speice (Brownout, Grupo Fantasma drummer and the legendary Nuyorican Poets Café.
